I've spent most of my life trying to figure out what comes next. Somewhere along the way I learned to stop.

painting is what I found when I did.

Seth Holmes is a watercolor artist based in Waynesboro, PA.

He was sitting by a creek one afternoon, watching the water flow, thinking about how much of his life had been spent trying to figure out what came next—the regrets, the unknowns, the way uncertainty used to paralyze him completely.

A lot has changed. These days, he’s more likely to just sit with the creek.

Life moves the same way. Moments come and go, and it’s easy to let them pass without ever really being inside them. A painting can’t stop time, but it can pull one moment out of the current and hold it still long enough to see what was actually there—a parade, a familiar stretch of road, an old building that meant something to someone once.

That’s what he’s after. Not everything. Just what made it worth stopping for.
